Free-spin retriggers: why six remaining plus five can finish at ten

If six free spins remain before a spin starts, using that spin and then receiving five extra leaves ten: 6 − 1 + 5 = 10. If the counter already shows five after the spin was used, add five to that reading instead. Subtracting again would count the same consumed spin twice.

Identify the award before reading the counter

Some games distinguish the initial award from an extension during the feature. In Pragmatic Play’s Sweet Bonanza 2500 overview, three or more lollipop scatters during Free Spins award five additional spins. This is a product-specific example, not a rule for every title containing Sweet Bonanza or every symbol that looks like a scatter.

The arithmetic below assumes exactly one spin is consumed and one five-spin award occurs, with no other addition or termination event. It does not claim that the actual game displays each animation at the times shown.

Two snapshots of the same sequence

What the starting reading means Calculation Remaining
6, before the current spin is used 6 − 1 + 5 10
5, after the current spin is used but before the award is included 5 + 5 10

The number five has different roles in this sequence. One five is the balance after consumption. The other five is a new award. They happen to be equal; they are not the same entry.

Two equations show 6 minus 1 plus 5 equals 10, or an after-use balance of 5 plus 5 equals 10.

Two common counting mistakes

Starting from the before-use six and simply adding five gives eleven. That forgets the spin that has just been used. Starting from the after-use five and calculating 5 − 1 + 5 gives nine. That subtracts the current spin twice. Both errors come from choosing the wrong starting state, not from a different retrigger amount.

A final screenshot showing ten alone does not reveal the previous counter or every intervening event. It is consistent with this example, but it could follow another sequence. Keep the before/after label beside a recorded number rather than reconstructing events from the final value alone.

Remaining spins are not money won

An extension increases the number of spins left under the feature’s rules. It does not tell you their future return. A spin balance of ten is not ten monetary units, ten wins or a guaranteed recovery of an earlier stake.

The feature-entry cost worksheet covers the separate calculation of entry cost, returned amount and net result. Keeping those records apart prevents a counter animation from becoming an unsupported profit claim.

When the display still looks inconsistent

Check whether the label means remaining, used or originally awarded spins, and whether the animation has finished updating the counter. Then match the feature and round reference in the available history. If one event is missing, record the gap rather than invent an extra award or use another spin to test it.
